Hi I am just introducing a new blue ram into my aquarium of three other rams. However, she is really shy compared to the introduction of each of the other three rams when they first entered the aquarium. By shy I mean that she is constantly hiding in the amazon sword plants and what I am most worried about is she isn't eating or scavenging like the others. The others adjusted in a matter of hours, for her it has been 24 hours and she refuses to come out of her hiding place. Is there anything I can do to to get her to socialize and be happy?

the original rams have established territories that automaticly exlude any new fish introduced. she is probably hiding so she doesn't get her hide tanned by the other rams.

I would rearange the decorations to mess up the boundary markers of the rams that were already in the tank so the new female has a chance to claim her own space.

btw how big a tank are the rams in? I am interested in the personal space requirements of small cichlids and the information would help me with my theories on the optimal space needed to house these interesting fish

Hi, Thanks for answering, I'll re-arrange and see what happens. My tank in 15 gallons and they seem to have more than enough space, the three I have are extremely happy and they sort of stick together for the most part, the two males kind of peck at each other a little but quarrels last only seconds. I was hoping to get another female friend for the male but she is really skittish, I scare her just upon approaching the tank. I really hope she snaps out of it. And she did eat this morning, she also made friends with the other female in the tank, I also caught her hiding in the plants pecking at the filter, so she just may need some time to get used to things

is that the 10" by 20" footprint 15 gal or the 12" by 24" 15 gal. I should have specified that I wanted to know the area the tank covered when i first asked.
