Blue Rams - Temperature?

I don't care about fish profiles. I'm looking for actual information about their natural water temp. Blue Rams are native to Venezuela, specifically the Orinoco River. There are profiles all over the internet, but most of the time the information is copied from books or from other sites. I want info from someone who knows first hand about the proper water temp.

Most books, and I own tons, just say 77 F to 80 F. But there are a few sources that refer to Blue Rams living in shallow sand and muddy waters that are very warm.

I'm just looking for people with experience with these fish at different temps.

I keep my tank at 80 F and they are happy. I believe the key is keep your water clean. Here is one of my young males, he is very photogenic.

Terry.

Wow! What equipment did you use to snag that pic? That's a beautiful fish.

I've seen them for $6.99 at a couple of shops in my area, including Petco which has some very nice looking specimens.

As soon as my tanks are ready (I'm getting close) I'm going to pick up a few of those babys.

A Microgeophagus ramirezi does well at temps of 80ºƒ-82ºƒ. Even 84ºƒ,

They are a species that can, however, withstand dramatic swings in etemperature variance. The biological mechanisms that permit them to withstand the high 90ºs encountered in the wild on occassion have permitted them to survive 62ºƒ for a couple of days in one of my tanks while all the other South American species around them died (except for a single oto). A heating accident that occurred while I left town and did not have a "qualified" person take care of my fish.

If you keep the tank at 80ºƒ - 82ºƒ they will be just fine.

I know this is an old thread, but for the sake of information, I thought I'd throw in my experience. I have two rams in a 29 gallon with White Clouds, Cherry Barbs, and some Cories. Since the White Clouds were the first fish in the tank, the termp has been set at 75 since my cycle finished (White clouds need water in the mid 70's, max). I've had the rams for almost two months now and they're perfectly healthy. Their color is a bit drab because of the low temps, but they're still the best looking fish in my tank.

As for price, I got them for $3.99 a piece at my favorite little fish shop.
