Hey everyone.

I just ordered 3 blue rams (random sex, hoping for mixture) for my 44g community tank with clown loaches, rainbows, tetras and a breeding pair of kribs. It has driftwood and caves with a few plants (java ferns, anubias' etc.) my parameters are:

0 ammonia
0 nitrite
15 nitrate
7.2 pH
70dH

I'm going to add peat moss to lower pH but I would like to know what else I can do to make these guys as happy as possible and hopefully breed. So please add suggestions. Thanks! :)

Really?! I read about 78-80 on various sites but I'll keep that in mind. Thanks :)

They like warmer waters. They aren't hardy so you jeed to be really careful with introducing them and your water parameters. You should try lowering that ph just a tad and watch for aggression before introducing them to the tank rearrange everythimg that way your other cichlids don't pick on the new comers.

I somewhat disagree about hardiness...it totally depends on the source. I kept my European bred blue rams at a pH of about 8.2ish. TDS of 400+. Mine were fine at 80F.

Asian bred rams tend to be less forgiving and do not adjust as well. The stock overall is pretty weak.

Okay, thanks everyone. I will lower the pH a tad with peat moss as mentioned. My tank is at about 80 degrees now so I guess i'll leave it at that. The only aggression in the tank is the breeding kribs, but they breed in a shell on the far end of the tank. There are plenty of hiding places so I hope they will be all good :)

Well the blue rams arn't in the tank yet so they dont have territories yet :P lol but I'll set up 'suitable' territories on the other side of the tank.
