blue rams

Stick with a dwarf pleco or maybe soem shrimp(i have these in my ram tank to)
So a zebra pleco (I have a ten gallon that's coming down and replacing with the 20) should be ok? I never see him unless it's light and time for feeding other wise he's in his cave or under his slate. I suppose I could move him to the other 20.

Also, since I'm not looking to breed them can I have other fish in there if they are not bottom dwelling?
The tank is not even cycled yet so I have lots of time.

Can i put blue rams with shrimp? i have a tank with a male betta, 3 snails and 2 rams. will adding shrimp cause problems?

thanks!

The problem with Rams is that although you may not have any plans to breed them, if they're happy they will have other ideas :D In my experience this is where things can get difficult. Rams are very protective of their eggs and brood and if there are too many other fish in the tank they get very stressed trying to defend them. This leads to illness. The only Rams I have lost have all died following spawning in a community tank. If you keep Rams that are healthy and happy (and lets face it who wants to keep unhappy Rams? ;) ) then you have to be aware that sooner or later they will probably attempt to breed. So yes a quiet planted tank is perfect for them :D - and anyway they are so beautiful they only need to be with a few tiny dither fish to complete the picture :D :D

I have amano shrimp in wiht my rams and they have never shown any interest in them. But i bought ought my rams at 1/2" and at that time they were too small to eat the shrimp. If you have full size rams they might try to eat them(not sure if they are big enough to though).

If you are worried then buy some ghost shrimp and test it out before spending more on "fancy" shrimp.

Ram Tank mates

would a Gold Gourami (mostly surface fish) be OK to keep with a Blue Ram? I have several gouramis who all get along but the gold one picks on the other gouramis. he doesn't pick on anyone else though. what is so difficult about Rams? why SHOULDN'T I get one?

Thanks!
