blue tang

Wait until the tank is cycled and stable before even thinking about it. Even then, I personally would not put a species that gets that big into a 60.

they do grow slow, but yea they do get to big. otherwise they are prone to ick so you would want to be sure that you arent having any problems with ick and that you have a cleaner shrimp around to catch any of it that starts. also they are prone to fading and lateral line erosion i belive

what tang are we talking about here paracanthus hepatus or a Acanthurus coeruleus, both are know by the name blue tang and i had to clear that up. secondly i would forget putting any tang into a system under 75 gallon, the smallest one may grow is 15cm, that tanks just doesn't meet their requirements and will get stressed, Also if we are talking about a paracanthus hepatus, people i know have had theirs just over a year in a 120 gallon and it has grown 4 inches in a year, not sure about Acanthurus coeruleus, but if it is anything like the other they grow very fast.

umm the one im talking about is a regal blue tang. you know the one in the finding nemo movie.. well.. i was thinking about getting one like sometime later after my new tank has settled and all .. i just wanna know like how they are maintained and stuff.. so its not advisable to get one ? what about a yellow tang ? or is it possible to get both?

Regals grow to about 23 cm long, a bit to big for your tank IMO, A yellow tang would be ok, just make sure there is nothing else in your tank yellow as it may get territorial towards it.

I currently have a 3.5 inch regal blue (aka hippo tang) in my 46 gallon. I got him when he was about 2 inches just over 6 months ago.

The tank's OK for him now, but I suspect he'll be much happier in the 135 I'm planning out right now.

Regals are ich magnets. You MUST MUST MUST have a Q-tank if you purchase one because it'll almost be guaranteed to have ich.

I think the whole HLLE thing is mainly as a result poor diet. You must feed them a mainly vegetarian diet. This means LOTS of nori (dried seaweed), but NO lettuce (iceberg, romaine or otherwise) as it has no nutritional value. I also feed Formula 2, mysis shrimp, daphnia, spirulina enriched brine shrimp, cyclopeeze, chopped clams/scallops and supplement with Selcon and a drop of garlic juice as an attractant.

i have a 12 inch hippo in my 135, it gets along great with my sailfin tang. and been ich free for well over 15 months. i think your tank is a bit small for a hippo, but after it is established for a bit i beleive it will do for a yellow.

I still say a full grown YT would be pushing the limit, but you could upgrade, it is just a excuse.
