Bluegill and sunfish tank

I knew that there were some invasive species but I didn't know that there were that many but why would someone want some of those fish!?

I agree, but why do you want aggressive fish and why does your brother want peaceful schoolers? Different strokes.... many of the fish on that list are fairly popular in the hobby.

You could do pygmy sunfish but you'd have a pretty empty looking tank until they start spawning, unless you get a bunch at first. I'm with Subrosa on suggestions, the smaller sunfish species work out great, look into lepomis marginatus and warmouth. The enneacanthus species would work also, but are less aggressive than the ones I have already mentioned.

Wow, the color on that Dollar Sunfish is intense! Very similar to the Northern Longear.

I think it's a western dollar sunfish in breeding colors, I know I've never seen one like that around here. When mine get colored up they look like the one in my avatar.

The one in this <---------- pic is WC. Most of mine are WC but I do have a few that are f1's. This species is extremely prolific and managed to spawn/raise fry in a community tank despite lots of fry eaters. They have brooding behavior similar to ca/sa cichlids.

Beautiful, I really adore native fish. I've really wanted to setup a tank with wild caught or native fish from the the New York area, but NYC is catch and release only and the laws here for bait fish are really tough.

I got Bluegills &Pumpkinseed, but dont follow my lead I a crazy lefty. Darters RULE too
