Bluegill gilling like crazy

OK guys. I don't want to offend anyone with this. I don't want to sound mean. But for the love of Pete, all I wanted to know in my initial post was if:

1. An airstone run overnight would help the morning oxygen levels
2. If that would lessen the efficiency of the CO2 reactor while the airstone is on

You aren't goign to change my mind on temperature or stocking, and I'm not going to chagne yours. And since I can't lower the temperature of the tank, that's a moot point.

1) Yes. It will help for the short term but it does not fix the problem.

2) Yes. it will lessen the efficiency of the CO2 reactor.

There your questions have been answered.

No problem. I hope I this helps.

Yep it does. I'm trying to decide if I want to have CO2 or not. I was my plants to be able to be as lush as possible and grow as quick as possible, but obviously the fish need to be doing ok as well.

They're all low light and my tank is about 2 WPG, so maybe i'll just try my luck with flourish excel.

Running an airstone at night should not affect the efficiency of your CO2 injection; your nighttime CO2 would just be off-gassed anyways, since your aquatic plants only take it up when actively photosynthesizing. Lots of folks run air and CO2 alternately, with air at night and CO2 in the day.

I don't have my CO2 system on a solenoid (sp?), so if I just leave the co2 going all the time and put the air pump on a timer, that would help a little?

I see no need to be running Co2 with theses tank specs.

Perhaps that is the easiest way to go then...

However, even though it may not be necessary, would it have any benefit?

CO2 always helps. Maybe turn down the BBS so its not as high a CO2 PPm, shoot for about 15 ppm.

I figure the BG's would be similar to stocking to a discus..10 in a 125 is acceptable.
I suspect the problem has already been hit..low O2 and CO2 possibly causing issues at night.

btw warm temps can be offset and are often used in cold water marine tanks..think chiller or bottles of ice ;)

good luck i bet it's a pretty neat set up.
