I was wondering if I could keep a 2 bluegills in a 10 gallon tank. I also need to know what to feed them and if it was legal in Wisconsin. I can't afford a bigger tank.
Thanks

I have always wanted bluegills too because I fish alot have catch them often. But they would require alot. They grow pretty big for a tank, you would need probably at least 55 gallons for 2, but thats just my guess I have never had a tank that large. Plus you would need very good filtration and still have to clean the tank often, as bluegills create lots of poop. Honestly every bluegill I have caught has pooped on me and its not pretty even small ones around 4-5" poop like a cat. So if you really want them get a big tank and be ready for lots of maintenance.

Do you think it would be fine to have 1 bluegill in a tank? I also need to know if it is legal for Wisconsin. :help:

Not sure about legality but 1 bluegill will not do well at all in a 10 gallon. They need lots of swimming space and get pretty big. They get to 10 inches long, thats about as wide as a 10 gallon tank. Sorry but it just won't work unless you get a bigger tank.

EDIT: You need 30 gallons minimum to handle the bio load of 1 bluegill

If the fish in my 55 ever die or I upgrade my 75 and move the 55 fish to the 75 I'm going to try Bluegills or whatever variety Brim I can net. I'll just return them to the lake when they get to big.

Its so easy to net a couple of small 2 or 3 inch fish I figure it would be cool to watch them grow up.
