Blue's 80 Gallon Mbuna Tank

Some Updated Pictures and video!

I've had my OB peacocks for about a month now and they are starting to come out more and more. I need to add some more to my group but I have yet to find a good source.

My stubby msobo female. This condition was caused by an injury when she was less than 2 inches long. She's smaller than my other females but she has a lot of attitude!

I love this zebra but I never get good enough pictures of her.

Yet again I can't get a good photo of my afra male. Here's one of his girls though

I DID get a video of him though!

Mbunas are looking great...beautiful male afra, BTW!

So here's a bit of an update. I did some stock cleaning to bring down my species count.

I removed my red zebras, elongatus male, msobos(except the stubby female), saulosi, red tail shark, socolofi, and brown bristle nose male.

My albino red zebra I kept but sadly she became egg bound and passed away. I bought 10 juvis metriaclima membe deep, but due to a postal error I lost 4. I also added 3 calico bristle nose form my other tank.

Here's how it looks:

OB peacocks
Metriaclima membe deep
Cynotilapia afra
Ps acei
1 male tropheus
1 female msobo
Syno petricola
Calico BN plecos

Last week there was an unidentified Victorian male hap at the auction. I picked him up as a nice fish for my display tank. I've never had issues added new fish. I kept him in a breeder net for 2 days then released him at lights out. My tropheus then proceeded to kill him. The tropheus has a general hate for everyone but it's always only been chasing no contact. I was pretty surprised. No more sympathy buys for me.

Last night I caught my synos breeding in my powerhead. It was pretty neat to see.

I don't have pictures right now. I'm hoping to get a video tonight.

Thanks for reading!

I'm sure it was pretty neat to see the synos spawning. I hope you can see their babies very soon!

I've been feeling a bit bored with this tank so I decided to do a complete tank make over.

I went out and got some new rocks and new sand and did a whole tank make over. I'm really happy with it. The fish are so much brighter and these rocks were WAY easier to stack.

Now for pictures!

Here is the old set up

Finally got some good pictures of my afras. The general consensus is he's a Cynptilapia afra likoma. The neat thing about this set up is my sub dominant afra has colored up as well and is holding a small territory on the other side of the tank. It's awesome watching them competing and trying to attract the same female.

A saulosi hybrid, I know I know I should have culled it but it adds a nice bit of yellow to the tank. I believe it's female anyway.

One of my new membe deep juveniles!

It wouldn't be an update without some video!

I like it! Great looking afras! I love the rock and would like to see more of it in there....or in my tank would be fine too. :D I can't find dark rocks around me for nothing. I am also jealous of your awesome blueness! I had to replace my light fixture and haven't gotten blue bulbs yet. I hope those Vals make it in those unprotected areas (I see you had the base protected in the before picture but not now). I was thinking of trying some in my tank, I miss all my anubias!

I just re-did my tank as well (not surprised that we did that at the same time) and I am in a similar boat as you, few adults with lots of youngsters (again no surprise). I'll post picture tomorrow probably.

Small update here. No pictures because the lights are out. I decided that today was the day I would move my M elipsifer to this tank. I waited until dark, tore apart my 40 breeder and removed him and a couple other fish. I took out some trouble makers from my 40 and added them to the 80. Call it heartless but I was hoping to use them as a distraction to keep my eel unharmed. It worked with some surprising results.

First instead of being beat up my male brichardi immediately took on my sub dominant afra. Then 10 seconds after being in the tank my eel sticks his head of the rocks and has been exploring. The last time he did a tank upgrade I didn't see him for 2 weeks and since then I pretty much only see him at night! I think he's going to be much happier in this tank, more space and of course sand substrate. Plus I'll get to see him more because this tank is in a main room.
