Sorry if this is a repost, I tried searching with no success. I recently set up a new tank. Its only about a week old now. There are no plants and just a few tetras to cycle the tank. It's a 54g tank with 80 lbs of eco-complete gravel. The PH is kind of high (7.5) but water is soft and ammonia levels are low. My problem is I have this bluish green tint to the water. It started out being cloudy and green now, its relatively clear but with a blue/green tint. I called eco complete tech, and they told me its a clay that is floatin in the water and would send me something to get rid of it. Been waiting on it for a week and was wondering if there is anything I can do with "over the counter" additives so to speak. I'm not sure what its called but perhaps some of you can answer one more question... will it hurt the plants or the tetras. I just got my light and was hoping to start planting.

Thanks again,
Paul

RUT RO!

that sounds to me like an algae bloom of green water.

check out the sticky on algae and see if it matches the symptoms.

let us know what you think

oh yeah and generally adding more chemicals to your tank increases the osmotic stress for the fish (bad) as far as the plants go i'm not sure- perhaps a search of the products name will come up w/ a few threads on the subject
