I just started my SW aquarium yesterday, it has been running about twenty four hours. It have a 29g, I have a tetra powerhead 40 filter, aquaclear powerhead 30, and a Red sea berlin internal skimmer 60. I used 30 lbs of arogonite sand which cost me $70 bucks and Red Sea salt. Im just wondering if the water will eventually clear up? because when I added the salt and sand it clouded up the water. The water has cleared up since yesterday, but I want it to be crystal clear. Any advice for a newbie?

I would give it a day or two and it should clear up. Make sure that you do not add any livestock...fish, corals, etc. It usually takes a couple days for things to clear up when adding sand. How did you mix the salt water? I ALWAYS mix my water up in a separate container and let it sit with a powerhead and heater in it for 24hrs before adding it to my main tank.

Hope this helps,

Bradd

That is probably what I did wrong, I added the salt in my tank while my filter and powerhead was running. So you think it will clear up in a couple of days?
And as for adding livestock I was going to wait a minimal of 2 weeks before adding any.

There is nothing wrong with mixing the salt in your start-up. I poured in 15 pounds of aragonite, 80 litres of distilled water and enough instant ocean to bring it to 1.023 salinity.
Mine was a fog yesterday, but just a slight cloud today. I added some live rock today and it clouded again, because I stired it, but has reduced in a few hours, visibility is still hazy. By tonight it should be better. I turned off my power head for a couple hours, and it helped.

Just be sure that after you add your animals that you mix the water and salt first and then add to the tank. The water will clear but if you want you could try running some carbon to speed it up.

I tested my ph with red sea test kit and it came out to be 8.2, but the alkalinity was high. the test doesn't give an exact number it just says low, normal, and high. I am using Red Sea test lab. What do I need to do(for high alkalinity)or am i ok. My tank has only been running 24 hours.

Its hard to say. Need a test that actually gives you the numbers.
