I have a white spot BN pleco and have recently tried feeding him veggies (actually only cucumber). Just wondering #1. how should i weigh it down? right now i'm just using a spoon but i hate always dropping a spoon in there. Any other suggestions? and no i'm not gonna tie it to anything, been there done that. #2. Will he actually eat the cucumber? I rub garlic on it but so far he hasn't really seemed interested in it. He hides all day and only comes out at lights off so i really don't know if he even knows it there? I have put it in the spots I know he usually goes but so far the cucumber looks untouched. I've tried feeding him this for about 3 days. Do they not like cucumber or is it just a matter of time before he starts to figure out what it is and eat it? #3. I was reading on a few sites that people have used blanched zuchini but all i had was cucumber. I'm not going to get any groceries for a couple more days so will this work do you think? Or do BN's not like cucumbers? I know they're omnivores and there is sinking shrimp pellets and algae wafers i put in before lights off so there is other things in there for him to eat. Any help is appreciated...thanks!!

My BN's really don't like cucumber. But they love zucchini! For adults I don't blanch at all, for the young I do. I use shrimp cocktail forks to weigh the zucchini down. They love romaine lettuce leaves. I use a veggie clip for that. And the tiny tender canned peas, but take the pea shell off first. I also just tried peeled, sliced grapes. They went right after it, but don't finish it like they do the zucchini. Broccoli stems blanched with the skin peeled off as well.

Sometimes it may take them a few days to realize that it is food too. If your tank has quite a bit of current (mine does) you can also use a veggie clip to keep it in one spot around the bottom of the tank. Or even wedge it between a rock and something else. Blanching or freezing/thawing is the trick though (Mgamer).

Good luck!
