My new large piece of wood is turning my water very yellow/orange in colour. The piece was left to soak for days before being put into the tank, i was wondering if anyone has found a solution for this discharge, or if it was just a matter of letting the wood do it itself over a long period of time?

umm, it always tans the water this way. That's why people with killifish, etc, stain their water with bogwood.

It's gonna take a while to get all the tanins out of the wood. Some fish prefer their water to be that way. Just keep some carbon in the filter and it will filter out eventually.

I dont mind it tanning the water a little, but its really making it too yellow. Unfortunatly the piece is very big and cannot be washed, boiled easily. It weighed 75 pounds, and was left to soak in my bath! Thanks for the carbon info though, as I was wondering if adding carbon would work.

You will have to replace the carbon weekly if yo want to get it all out. The carbon will be used up very fast.
