Hi,

I got one piece of driftwood that is glued from two separate pieces using silicone. If I boil it, would it melt the silicone? Just want to get some tanins out and "disinfect" it.

Thanks

I'm fairly sure silicone is heat resistant, I don't think boiling it will do anything to it. Your best bet would be to scrape/cut it off then boil the driftwood

I have boiled silicone before and have had mixed results I think that it deponds on any other materials imbeded in the silicone. I however wouldn't worrie about it while the silicone may get soft it will harden back up as soon as you remove it. If it does have a problem you can simply scrape off the old and move on to the new.

One problem I have seen (Sure I will get arguments here) is that after boiling wood if I don't cycle it a few times it will put off a little brown tint to the water. While others that I have pointed this out 2 have not been able to tell it was pritty easy to see for me couse I veiwed the tank daily.

Don't worrie about it give it a shot and let us know

Thanks for the replies. I boiled it for 45 minutes and it still holds up. I am soaking it (perhaps for a week) before putting it in.
