Just found and bought one! What is the safest way to 'sterilize' it? I have it in a gallon of water now - just leave it for a couple of weeks? I need to make absolutely sure ich doesn't get into the tank... not to mention flukes, etc.

(Just not sure I should potassium permanganate it...)

It's a type of fern. ;)

If you do decide to potassium permanganate it, I wouldn't dip the roots or rhizome and I'd use a weak solution.

why do you want to sterilize it? If you feel you have to, make a 1:10 dilution of bleach to water, do a quick 30 second dip in it, then soak it in plain water plus dechlor...like Prime for an hour...then put it in your tank. Do not plant the rhizome in the substrate or it will rot. Either put it on driftwood or some kind of hardscape, or wedge the bottom 25% of root in the substrate with the rhizome above ground. Also not that they like water movement, so if you place it somewhere near the outflow, it will appreciate it.
