They're suppose to be really small. I think I'm gonna get a couple for my 40gal. It has about 6 Zebra Danio's, a Spotted Catfish, and a Rubberlipped pleco. and 1 snail that came with the plants :)

What do ya'll think?

btw, do snails reproduce asexualy? (i know i could look it up, i probably will, but still)

yep its caused by in increase in zinc in the water which cause deformation. other then that the just normal. ive seen balloon green terror and molly people say that its a inbreed problem or hybrid its really not and i have proven that wrong at work we add zinc to one of our grow out tanks for molly and when they were 1in long they all looked like balloons

They're suppose to be a lot more friendly than the regular ones. Probably because they're so much smaller. That's why I'm looking forward to getting them in my comm tank.

It is blue ram (Microgeophagus ramirezi), not Bolivian ram (Microgeophagus altispinosa). On the last note, I hate balloon variants. They're nothing but deformed fish.

They are still cichlids either way.

Looks very odd. My Bolivian Rams are friendly- the yalways greet me at the front of the tank whenever i come into the room. I also think balloon fish are odd and wrong!

my ballon gbrs were not friendly. they were really agressive towards one another. and they tend to be really fragile. out of 5, i had one survive

Yeah that's a balloon ram, ramirezi not altispinosa. I also have a distaste for intentionally deformed animals.

I had not heard these deformities were induced by using zinc. but I have heard these are bred for this genetic trait.
much like an angel I have with an extremely upturned lip.
personally, I don't like the look ..I feel the normal ram is beautiful and should not need these enhancements.
but these are traits in the genes and bred for this purpose.. really not much different than breeding for other physical characteristics like color.. remember..the 'German' blue ram is bred for enhanced colors.
