bolivian ram or other fish for this set up

Here is an image of my 3 foot x 18" deep x 18" tall 40 Gallon breeder tank.

I've never kept any type of fish besides cories and tetras (had a brief spell with gourami but only for a couple of weeks before moving them out to a more suitable tank setup with a different owner)

Is that tank set up appropriate for more than 1 pair of bolivian Rams (like a group of 4 or 5), along with the tankmates of cardinal tetras?

I feel like it may not have defined territories besides the wood in the back right but as I've never owned them, that might actually look like a few territories to a more experienced eye.

4-5 would be pushing it. I have 3 in my 3" 46 bowfront and minus a bit of posturing, they get along reasonably well.

Wouldn't do more than a pair myself in a 3 foot tank. The odd one out might get bullied if the pair starts breeding. More than that and there isn't enough room for territories IMO...

I vote for a pair. It may not sound like much, but trust me when I say its worth it. I love bolivan rams!
