My female Bolivian ram has a strange non-moving protrusion coming out of her butt. Is this normal in any way? I have a planted 10 gallon with an opposite sexed pair of these rams. :help:
I don't think there is anything you can do for it other than isolating her so that no other fish can peck at it, lots of clean water, and up her veggie intake. Hopefully someone else has better news for you, but I have not heard of very many survivor stories of fish with this problem.
I shoved the tissue back into the fish with a small blunt glass stirrer. I gave the fish some meds and isolated it from my tank. I always see her pecking at algae in my planted tank, so i'm curious as to why this happened.
Ouch! Hopefully, it going back in didn't cause any more damage. I wish I could tell you the cause, but there are many that it could be. Good luck with her.
It's been about 1 1/2 hours now and she seems to be doing fine. She's just a bit tired, but she's exhibiting healthy behavior. To prevent this in the future, how long must I pre-soak freeze dried foods?
To be really safe you could stop feeding that particular fish freeze dried food otherwise I'd start them soaking in warm water then put in the fridge to avoid bacterial growth and soak overnight to make sure it's not going to absorb any more water in the fish's digestive tract... But this will decrease the nutrient density of the food.
