I am looking for books about setting up and maintaining a freshwater aquarium. I know that the book "The Conscientious Marine Aquarist" is about saltwater fish keeping, but is there a book this informative on the freshwater level.
(Actually the above book is what steered me away from getting a saltwater nanocube. After reading the book I realized that I do not have the available time, being away from home 3 days a week, to maintain a saltwater tank.)
Thanks

If you really want a book how about "The Tropical Aquarium" - MiniEncyclopedia - Gina Sandford ISBN 0-7641-2986-4 - it covers just about everything and goes for about $15.

:welcome: I agree^^^It's a good book!

I enjoyed reading "The simple guide to fresh water aquariums" by David Bouchowitz as it explains all the basics of setting up an aquarium. Don't buy it, borrow it, as you will only read it once (it doesn't help with issues that arise after you set up the tank (illnesses or proper stocking beyond the basics)

Gina Sanford's Aquarium owners guide (a DK book) was also fun to read as a newby.

Did NOT like the freshwater aquariums for dummies guide.

For more info on all kinds of fishes I liked Jennings "500 freshwater aquarium fish". I take it with me to the LFS.

I read both "The Tropical Aquarium" & "The simple guide to fresh water aquariums", but nothing ever "clicked" for me until I spent time on this site reading the various posts. I find it much more valuable to see the varied opinions and dynamic conversation than reading any ONE person's writings... JMO.

What size, type of tank are you wanting to set up? What fish interest you?

I bought a lot of books in my time, but I have to admit that the internet has been a (free) fountain of information, better than any book I've ever seen.
