I need a good aquatic plant-keeping book. Something akin to Bob Fenner's The Conscientious Marine Aquarist book for reef-keeping. I'm not looking for a small quickie book - got one. I want something in-depth, but not too scientific. Something that will give ideas about fertilizing, lighting, heating, filtering, CO2 regulating. I'm going to start a planted tank and I'll have some fisah but I want to read and learn first to avoid as many mistakes as possible. Anybody know of a really good book for planted aquarium keeping?

Thanks for the site - I have one of those books, the other 2 look similar to the other small book I have but I might get them anyway. I was hoping there would be something recent and more informative. There are ton's of books on salt-water aquariums, I wonder why finding books for plants is so tough. It seems to me a good planted aquarium is every bit as complicated to maintain as a salt-water tank.

Look for christel kasselmann's book - think Tropica. It recently came out with an english translation. Really expensive, but apparently worth the price. I've never seen it "live", and I'm not sure I want to spend quite that much.

Ines Scheurmann's book is nice to have, but not particularly great as a reference. But it's so cheap, I might even buy a 2nd copy just for fun :)

You're right, there aren't any good plant books. Nothing recent, and nothing that discusses DIY CO2, substrates (flourite, etc) and fertilization (ie pmdd) to the extent that we would like it. Buy the books for the pictures, but go online for the info. I've accepted it.

PS i may have spelled some names wrong - it was off the top of my head. if you need more info or if you want me to double check names, let me know

Edit: Ok, here's the kasselmann book. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...103-7167744-1507800?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

get the ISBN off here and search for it in other places. not very widely available, but it came out very recently

Thanks Starry - that looks like a good one - I'll have to put some pennies aside and add it to my collection. Well, I appreciate the help and suggestions from you guys - just one more step in the process.
