I have 2 siamese algae eaters (definately not false or chinese or flying fox) that have grown up together. One has become much larger than the other, presumably male and female? The larger one is always chasing the smaller one, consequently it lives most of the time under a rock. Should I separate them or let them be.?

There is no way of determining their sexes. Leave them. It's pecking order and they don't do any serious damage when doing so.

That may be true but I HAD 2 Siamese algae eaters and one harried the other to death IMO. I have 2 others that are best buddies. I believe that under normal circumstances SAEs are great together but there are exceptions.

If there is room, adding 1 more may help diffuse the aggression. I have 2 in a 75g & it took a couple months for the big 1 to accept the newer. Now they mostly get along except maybe at feeding time, sometimes they even share a leaf.

How big is your tank? I had 2 babies in a 20g long for a short time & had to move the underdog. It was temporary anyway as they grow to 5+ inches pretty fast.

My tank is 218 L. I used to have 3 but one suddenly died and it was a big one. I could either try 2 more or maybe some clown loaches?
Adding another SAE is better than adding clown loaches. Clowns will eventually outgrow your tank unless you have plans to upgrade the tank in a few years.
