does anyone have any personal care on botia sidthimunki? i'd like to hear ppl's view on them. i've seen these in my local lfs and they're very beautiful. but im very hesitant to try cuz they're expensive. plus the sites i've read have conflicting numbers on pH. some give ranges of 6.5-6.9 others 6.5-7.5. i know loaches mostly prefer acidic water, but i was wondering if this just happens to be a species that can tolerate slightly hard water. mine is around 7.2 and i do not want to risk killing them.

I do not have personal experience with them but have several botia species and all do well at my pH (7.8) I just acclimated them slowly. I think they key is to make sure your pH is constant. I am jealous, I really wanted some dwarf/chain loaches but could not find any locally!! When I was researching them, I found several sites that said pH up to 7.7 but one of the important things is soft substrate and lots of hiding places. They can also be quite active.

Have fun with them :)

Always wanted to try them sids. They're out there occassionally but are not easy to find. Just saw some last week: I think it may be the season for them.

I'd like to try a completely miniature SE Asian tank with sids, a good sized school of emerald microrasbora and a handful of sparkling gourami. One of these days.

I've had good luck with small loaches but have never kept sids…

I'd try the nice folks at loaches.com .

The care for all loaches are about the same. Acclimate them carefully ---loaches seem to get ick easier then other fishes and because they do not have scales are harder to treat.
