1/32" glass would break really easily. The ply would idea would work. You could also call a glass shop and have some glass cut to size for cheap.
I asked on MFK if it was ok to repair a tank that way and apparently it won't work. I'll try and find the thread.JM ... we are talking about an 8 inch cube, right? Or have I got something wrong? I mean isn't 1/32 OK for a "betta bowl?"
Forget answering that, you are right! Somehow I began thinking of 1/32 as 1/16, you are right--I stand corrected. Sorry, not enough coffee, will wake up before I post again--I promise!
One could, if one wish a "kludge" which would work, is to spread a thin layer of silicone between two sheets of 1/32 glass and in effect make a small pane of "kludged safety glass." Since it is the bottom of the aquarium, small air bubble in the silicone would be insignificant and it can easily be hid--so looks need not be that important.
