Are you looking for a general book on fish? I like Baensch's Aquarium Atlas. Short 1/2 page on each fish with a picture. Tells you diet, size, general breeding, water parameters, temp., sexual dimorphish if any.
Anesthesia huh? Complicated subject. I'm an RN so I can sympathize. Those medical texts are killers.

Cichlid book specifically...any recommendations.

Yeah, I don't know that I would get to it anytime soon. But I'd like to have a reference.

Baensch has a cichlid atlas also. I don't have that one but I would assume it is a similar format.
Not too expensive either, under $50.
