I have thought about nerites but can never seem to keep them alive. I think the problem is my water is naturally SO soft but in this tank I have got the ph up to almost 9 so they might be ok.

Yeah, I think they would do fine since you have the water buffered up. They attach very strongly to the glass and are much tougher than Briggs. I don't think the multis would bother them too much.
