Bottom Feeder for Oscars

Silver Dollars are very fast and very skittish, need to be kept in groups of six or more. They do well with Oscars. I keep a Pterygoplichthys disjunctivus, can get to about 18". It's an armored catfish (pleco) that has armor plating rather than scales. My Oscars didn't like him one bit but they couldn't hurt him. He totally ignores everyone else in the tank. Is a real klutz when looking for food and knocks over decor and plants. Took all decor and plants out and has been fine without them. I keep a small piece of driftwood in there for him to try to push around.
 
Rather than adding another fish you might want to increase the circulation in the tank to get the leftovers and such in the sump. Some ramshorn snails in the sump will take care of it. The oscars will take care of any snails that escape into the main tank.

Vacuuming out the tank 5 times in a month sounds like a good thing to me. It means you are doing some water changes :Angel:

i dont really like fast moving fish. I was actually wondering if i could get some Discus to put in this tank, I haven't started any research to see if thats possible, just a thought in my head. my mom LOVES discus, and i have kept them before with success.

i currently have a 8" pleco in the tank, ive had him since he was just a baby.
 
Interesting combo; not saying it can't be done but probably shouldn't be done. Oscars are very misunderstood. People say they're aggressive killers but in an appropriate sized aquarium they can be quite accommodating. That being said, there are a few cichlid species that can be mixed with Oscars but Discus isn't one of them. Green Terrors, Jack Dempseys, Chocolate Cichlids, and Geophagus sp. will go well, so to speak.
