I have a 29 gallon tank. It's been setup for a few months and doing very well. So far I have 7 Neon Tetas and 4 Red Eyed Tetras. I'm looking for some type of bottom feeder to help clean up uneated food and to keep the gravel cleaned up some. The LFS suggested some Cory's or even a catfish. What are some suggestions on what to add?

I really like upside-down catfish. They grow to be 3.5" long, and are so harmless, I use them in my angelfish breeding tank. They would leave your neons alone. (I've had two for the past eleven years, and they're still alive. They have a tendency to live quite long.) You would need them in groups, 2-5 are the best.

Nice tank Fly !!

I would go with the cory cats myself. Particularly a nice school of 5 or 6 panda cories. They don't turn into big monsters like some of the other corys will...and they're pretty cute besides !

You could do a yoyo or kuli loach instead if the corys don't thrill you. I think they would find plenty of hiding spots in that driftwood you have in there...nice piece btw !

I need a bottom feeder for my 29 as well..but I have a blue ram in that tank so can't go with the corys..(tried it once already). I also have 2 halfdoller size angels in the tank too along with 5 prestella tetras and 2 otocinclus...so not sure how much room I have left for anything else...not much I imagine !

Good luck with your search....

I agree. I would go with a nice school of cory cats.

Panda cory's!!! I have 3 in my 29 gal.
I also have a blue ram and I hear that they don't get along or something? Mine chases the cories ruthlessly sometimes and other times she swims around with them. I haven't seen any damage done other than hurt feelings and they hide out in there cave sometimes. So why cant you keep cories EMG? Did they get killed or did you just not like the chaseing sometimes?

Maybe it depends on the ram....but my female ram is pretty aggressive. She was harassing the cory so much I was afraid they would get sick and die on me, so I made a black and white themed tank...and put them in there !! :D

However, you'll notice I also have a ram in this tank (it's a 15)..it's a male ram and he's by himself and doesn't bother the cories at all. So it's one of those things you have to try and see how it goes.

There are many types of catfish, the one I know is channel catfish - so messy and nasty fish, will mess your tank instead of cleaning it. I heard cory cat are good cleaner, but mine doesn't do anything, it neither clean nor mess the tank.
