bought 2 new plecos

I bought 2 new little baby rubber lip plecos! they are so cute, is there anything extra I need to know about these little babies? OMG I just looked in the tank and 1 is dead! WTH.. i hate pet stores.. well the other guy is ok! ugh..

hmmm...you didn't research the fish before the purchase?

How did you acclimate them?

Thank goodness you have them in a QT tank so they don't affect others.

no :wall::wall: I didn't do research I just thought they looked cute and love my other plecos, well I put them in with my snails because i am treating for ICH in my main tank so I didn't want them to die, well the ammonia was way higher than I thought (even thougha water change had just been done 4 days ago! the filter is a 20g(TANK is a 10g) and runs all the time but everything went nuts quick. i did a water change (90%) and put him back in so we will see what happens! I am mad at myself because where I got the plecos was about an hour away! I can return anywhere but can't get another one!! ugh...:wall:

yup! no loss to them they charged way too much for that thing anyway, retail mark ups go from 60%-300% depending on where you shop and what you buy! they have a return policy:

p.s. I did not intentionally "kill" my fish with the water quality, I did a change less than 4 days ago (80%)and everything was functioning perfect! I believe if this guy was in decent health he wouldn't have just stopped breathing while sucking on the tank glass! i got the other one out and they were bought fromt he same store and put in at the same time!

I hope you will only return the one for a refund of your money, not another fish. 10 gallons is way too small for a rubberlip pleco, let alone 2 of them, you must upgrade immediately or return the other pleco.

I can't exchange for another fish, there is no way i am driving an hr. for another fish! 10g is enough for an RL pleco especially since it was less than an inch long and it was only going to be in there for another few days till the ICH in my main tank cleared up!

ammonia kills even if its a short time. it really doesnt matter what mark up is too. they have lots of expenses.

I worked in retail for 7yrs and if you purchase an item for .49 and sell it for $3.29 that more than covers your expenses!

Though yes some fish may be stronger than others, the point remains that the fish died not of poor health, died from the high ammonia level.

And not sure how that lfs works but all lfs here only give a refund for a dead fish if you bring in a water sample.

I suggest for the future you do research before buying fish. And make sure your tanks are in the right condition to hold any new stock.
