I bought 6 briggs at petco yesterday. I considered it to be a rescue!! one was about penny sized(gold), 4 were about quarter sized(2 ivory-one was REALLY bright white, and 1 dark striped olive, 1 blue) and one was about silver dollar size.can't tell what color it is. It's like a dark brown with purple stripes. dark foot. the blue has a cracked shell and the gold looks like the shell's receding. What can I do for the shells? I bought a cuttle bone and cut it in 3 pieces one each for 3 of my tanks. I had 3 5 gallons set upas quarantine tanks and put 3 in one and 2 in the other. I did see all of them moving-made sure to watch them for a while so I knew they were alive. the biggest one I put in the tank and he floated. it was fully in it's shell, trapdoor closed, floating on the water like a bad egg. Is this ok? it does come out of the shell sometimes. but it's not often on the glass or rocks of the tank. it also doesn't seem to eat anything.

anyway when I bought them, the lady wasn't going to put them in any water. she said that they would drown because they need air. I know they need air but I'm not stupid enough to think they'll live in a bag or box for 8 hours with NO water! they had their poor snails in tanks that had about 10 inches of water in them.

most of my store bought snails have shell damage. keep your PH high to prevent shell erosion. i make snello with crushed calcium added to it and give them a variety of veggies to chomp on. all of my snails have grown and there's an obvious difference in the old shell and the new shell.

OMG, what IGNORANCE!

Please, print off a good care sheet, take it to the store and hand it to the manager.

Good luck with them!

I am getting together all the info I can find. The lady that was working the first day I was there and bought 2-a gold one and a wild colored one- she actually knew something and put them in the water.i guess she left, was what the lady yesterday said. she also told me they couldn't eat anything except fish food. I said well, my 4 tanks of snails absolutely love fresh veggies, and zuchini seems to be one of their favorites. I also told her I make snail jello. and all she did was laugh and say well when you kill your snails don't come back. I think when I go back the 26th, I will take a care sheet and a list of the correct colors to them too. I wish I could save all their snails-they do have some beautiful blues and ivories.
this one color though, the brown with purple stripes I can't place. It's sure pretty. at first I thought it was a wild colored one. is it bad for it to float like this?
