1/2 a cup ain't going to create a brackish condition for the puffers (they are a higher end brackish fish too). You should buy a hydrometer (measures salt content in H2O) and do an experiment in a bucket or the like to see how much salt you need to add per gallon and then convert it to a 20g. I know in my area to get a 1.005 salinity level I need to add 1 cup of salt per 10g. For a green spot you are going to need a min of 1.010. Anyway, hope this helps and good luck!
