Brainstorming design for a custom aquarium fixture.

No problem. I'm an art major, it's what I do. We could probably do some cool collaborations!

Haha, yep! You design it, I make it work. :)

Although, that makes me more of an engineer than an architect.

I fail. :( lol

It's been a while, but I have some updates.

We got a house! I've been taking a break from my thesis project, and redesigned the tank and cabinet a bit to something a little more reasonable. It's a typical 55gallon (I did this because it would allow us to do this project early on).

Here's a photo montage of the living/dining room and entrance foyer as it is now, and my idea about where the custom tank cabinet would go and how it might look.

Opinions? Eventually, we hope to have hardwood floors instead of the lame-o beige carpet. :)

And here's with the wood flooring:

I like it!!

sweet tank stand... I personally think it was WAY cooler with 2 tanks though

and as far as the wiring-- it would be really easy to run it through the floor... hell you could even just run a big extension cord up through the floor if you didnt wanna rewire anything

Yeah, I know that it's way cooler with the two tanks, but I don't think the two CUSTOM tanks are economical right now. Perhaps later on when we have some capital saved up we could do it, but for now I think working with non-custom parts is the most economical way to go.

The fiance and I just want a project for when we move in, since renovations won't really be able to start until next year. We wanted to build something to personalize the place right off the bat, and what's better than a custom tank stand? I figure a 55g with stand shouldn't run more than say $400 if done correctly. And the room needs a divider, anyways.

I like your new design better than the first one. Split tanks bug me when the longer view suggests a wider, single tank space. Walk up to take a closer look and there's the glass wall getting in the way.

Haha, I'm glad that you all like it. You guys are all fish freaks, though, like I am, so pretty much anything would be cool. :)

It's important to design something that appeals to the masses.

The fiance is a different story altogether. She has only ever known small tanks. Even my current 20-long is HUUUGE to her, so the thought of a 55 in the living room is a bit ridiculous to her. I don't know how I could convince her. I thought that creating this mock-up of the room might help convince her, but she's still very hesitant.

Wives. lol...
