I have been hearing both sides and I wanted to get to the bottom of it. Do Brazilian swords grow under water? I keep hearing they are not aquatic plants and will not grow and will die. Then I hear advice on how to care for them and for sale on many aquatic websites. Mine hasn't really grown at all I don't think. If it has it has been very minor. But it does grow new baby leaves. The store told me it will get very tall but it hasn't gotten any taller in 3 months its still like 6-8". It always gets algae bad and my pleco always eats off it. I was just want to know if this thing is fine in the tank or if it's just a waste of space. Here are a picture.

It's not aquatic. It's one of those plants that can survive awhile when submerged due to it's own toughness, but it'll eventually rot and die.

Brazilian Sword is the common Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum tasson) they like wet places but are not a full aquatic plant.

I got a humongous pot of them growing on dry land in my yard. They need lots of water but by no mean aquatic.

Mine was the same, it didn't grow, but still grew out a few new leaves. It finally died last week, when I spot treated with excel for staghorn algae (excel burned leaves). It did look good and lasted for longer than six months without showing any signs of dying, so I don't really think it was a waste of space. If excel didn't burn them, I would have still had them in my tank.
