Someone was just admiring my office tank, and got to talking about thier goldies. The have 2 comets (about 5 inch)in a 30 gal. (better than a bowl). They said they got a small crab of unkown species. One day the crab was gone. A week later one of thier goldies seemed to have a growth near its stomach. Pregnant mabey? No babies after 2 months but the growth continued to get bigger. One morning the "pregnant" fish was found floating with its innards exploded all over, and the crab was back. Can a crab(any kind?!) live in a fishes stomach for a matter of months, only to "break-out" and continue its normal life? I've read that some crabs need to surface for fresh air, but does that apply to all species? I would imagine ANYTHING in a stomach for that long would eventually be digested. Any thoughts?

Probably just hid, then the goldfish died of parasites, then the crab came back out to eat the guts.

Good theory, more believable than what they wanted me to think.
