Breeder tank...

I am sorry if this sounds dumb but what is a breeder tank? I am probably going to buy a 30 gal from someone tomorrow and he said it is a breeder tank. What is the difference between a regular one and that kind?

Most "breeder" tank descriptions refer to dimensions- they are usually wider or longer and not as tall as a "regular" tank.
So while a "regular" 30g would be 36x12x16, a 30g "breeder" is 36x18x12- meaning length, width, height.
