I have apple snails that have laid a 'sack' of eggs. That is the best way I can describe it. They have laid two sacks, both out of the water.

My question is 1) Is it normal to lay them out of water? 2) Is there anything that I must do to insure they will hatch?

Thank you for any suggestions

While I am far from being an expert, I believe it's normal for them to lay them above the waterline. I believe they should be moist but not wet..... hopefully someone with some knowledge here can offer more input.

yes its completely normal for them to lay there egs above the water line. try and keep them slightly moist not to wet or they could drown if to wet check this site for all info. gud luck www.applesnail.net

they are called clutches, and unless you want TONS of baby apple snails you might want to consider euthanizing one of the clutches (freeze it) or both. If the clutches are laid to close to your lights you may have an issue with them surviving. www.applesnail.net is a wealth of information as mentioned above. Good luck! Pics?

If you cover the tank and limit the spaces for the babies to escape, that should keep enough moisture in the air to keep the clutches healthy. If you see condensation on the clutches, they're too wet.

Right on! Yea, I do want alot of snails as I have big tanks and like to see the snails in there. Plus I have very hungry fish that would love to eat as many as they can.

How long does it take them to hatch?

Takes about 10 days for it to hatch. The sac turns gray just before the hatching starts. Warning: you will have too many snails. I get rid of my egg sacs all the time. I let one very small clutch hatch and got around 100 snails out of it. Now I'm trying to find homes for them. They poop like crazy.

I think my severums and EBJD's are eating them as fast as they hatch! hehehe. I just cleaned the tank, 210 gallon, and they were snatching them up as I moved rocks! Thank you for your help, you all have been great!

heh, this is making me want to get apple snails......

Anyways, its good to know everything is going fine.
