i have just scored ANOTHER 10G for free so i though well to start of i might try and breed some brine shrimp in it for food which worked well for a while but THEY STINK REALLY REALLY BAD so i have cleaned it out with vinegar i threw the pump out i just could not get the smell out of it so now i was thinking i have never had a beta so why not get 2 if you think they will go in a 10 gallon and see if they will breed!!!!

if a 10G is to small its ok i will get a bigger tank for them but just wondering if anyone has tried to breed them and if so how hard is it and is there any tricks to it?
 
I have tried breeding them and it is hard. for starters if you want to breed, put the male betta in the tank and when he is ready he will start making bubbles on the water. Then add the female betta in there and wait for her to lay her eggs in the bubbles. you have to take the female after she lays the eggs and the male will care for the eggs for few days. you have to transfer the fry after they are free swimming or they will become midnight snack for the male. there should not be any current in the tank at all or the male wont make the bubbles. if you want both make and a female in a 10 gallon, make sure it is heavily planted of there are lost of hiding spots. I have been able to breed them only twice. I hope this helps there are probably better techniques out there but this was how i did it.
 
breeding bettas is pretty easy. somtimes it depends on the individual fish you have. all you do is set up a betta tank, exept no gravel, and float a a piece of styrofoam in the water. male makes nest of bubbles on it, female lays eggs, they fall to the ground while the male fertilizes them, then they both pick them up and put them in the nest. the male will take care of them, sometimes the female too, or she might eat them. ten gallon is a good size for breeding
 
any other ideas of something i can breed easily in a 10G thats not to hard to look after i also have another spare 10G if you need to take the parents out so they don't eat the kids, and i already have guppies and mollies was thinking something that looked nice (something to keep not feed to my cichlids)
otherwise i might just throw a school of something in each tank maybe some tetras what you think any ideas
 
well i want to breed bettas to because i have a beautiful male betta thats orange and i want to have orange little babys but i cant find a orange female so i was wondering if i could get one of those white females would the orange color be dominate? if so then i would love that and i would like to be able to breed my betta. also i think you need some floating plants in the tank and for the male to make a bubble nest do you need an airstone in the tank?
 
no no airstones or moving water otherwise it wont work the water needs to be dead still with a plant and some hidng spots for the female
 
hmm sounds like i wanna try it but anybody know if white is reccessive and orange dominate out of the 2 colors
 
which one is harder to find. the harder to find is probably the recessive. how ever with selected breeding it might throw that off.
 
so orange is recessive...
