My Bristlenose Plecos have started and I have 2 babies so far, its great. Anyone have any tips or ideas? I wasnt even trying to breed, are they easy to breed or did i just get lucky?

I have a trio of breeders in a 30 long. I keep coral in all my tanks to maintain pH and facilitate swapping fish around between tanks. After I found a few BN fry that the chanchitos hadn't picked off I realized mine were spawning. A couple days later I moved the cichlid pair out to another tank to allow the BN's and some cichlid fry to grow out a bit. Since then I have moved 116 1" BN fry out of the 30, still have more than that remaining in the tank, and there's a fresh brood in the cave with the male due to come out any time now. I'd say they're very easy to breed, I wasn't even trying.

I think some are easier than others. When I was breeding sp. Pucallpa, spawns were 100+ fry ever time, every 3 weeks from a single pair. My L144's have much, much smaller broods. Once they are old enough to start.....there's only one way to stop them.....separation.

My breeding tanks have several caves in them so the fish can pick a favorite. They'll eat all forms of bottom feeder foods and vegies. I use carrots because they sink on their own and don't foul the water. I make and sell caves and food if you want to send a PM, I'll tell you all about it and e-mail you pics. I've inquired to AC about registering in the vendor area and have not heard back.

Regards-Captain Bob's Fishtales.
