Breeding Bristlenose Plecos

I have recently bought two long finned Bristlenose Plecos. I believe I have a male and female. The female is about 3.5 inches long and has no signs of "bristles" the smaller (2.5-3in) male has some small bristles starting to develop. I have been reading about breeding common bristlenose plecos and was wondering if anyone has had any experience breeding the long finned variety.

Also any suggestions would be helpful.

I have these guys in a 10 gallon that I just set up for them. Right now there is some gravel in it and I plan to put some lives plants and java moss in there.Right now the tank is looking pretty bare but I am planning to put live plants and java moss in with them. I also have a clay flower pot in with them to maybe act as their breeding cave.

Be careful. I knew someone that had a male (long bristles) that was about 4". He got another one that we thought to be a female (short bristles) that was in the 3 to 4 inch range. The first one beat on the second heavily for a week or so, then killed it. After looking at the second one postmortem, you could see that the bristles had started to grow longer. The second one was really a male!

I do believe they will require a larger tank that a 10 gal (my friend’s was a 30 gal) The link i give later breeds them in a 20L.

You will also need some driftwood. It will act as a hiding place and they will also rasp on it. The one cave is nice, but the will want many hiding places.

The female jumped out of the tank and died... looks like I won't have to worry about it after all.
