Does anyone know about the breeding habits of Clown loaches? I understand that sexing them is difficult as is breeding them. I have noticed that my two 6-7" loaches have done some interesting things in the last few days. They turn almost white start biting at each other and have locked mouths similar to what Cichlids do when they are mating. It is not one sided - both are equally aggressive this way. After a few minutes they seem to settle down and are fine. Lots of chattering as well. They have been together for a number of years now. Any thoughts?

I have only read one report on captive breeding of Clown Loaches, and it was by accident.

They are difficult to breed.

Go to google search and type in: clown+loach+breeding

You should be able to find the report and what the guy did, by accident.

I used to think about breeding them too, but there isn't enough info out there for it.

my understanding is that they need to be at least 10" or so to breed, but they will play at it when smaller. this might be what you're experiencing. i recall the episode lila has mentioned, and those clowns were at least 12" if my memory serves. it takes a huge tank to breed 12" clown loaches, i might add...that is, if it's at all possible when you're actually *trying*. loaches in general are fairly notorious when it comes to breeding, i only know of people who have bred kuhlis. the botia loaches are almost always collected from the wild.
