I have a pair of convicts in a 2 foot tank and they've only been in it a couple of days and the male has taken a few bites out of the females side. They were in quarantine for a week before i put them in the tank is this normal behaviour or should i seperate them? will the females bites heal by themselfes? the bites are not really that big
thanx

As long as she's not pinned up in a corner, she's fine. If that happens, get a piece of egg-crate and make a divider. They'll be able to see each other, yet he won't be able to beat her up.

It's pretty normal behavior with Convicts. What size are your fish? I find it best to start with a larger female so that the male can't overpower her when they're first introduced.

I always picked a male and female and tossed them in a tank. In a week, they'd have a swarm of fry around them. Probably the one fish that you can be guaranteed that if they don't kill each other they will make babies.

well the male beat the female up and now she has two big bites and half a tail left. i have another female who is slightly larger could i try her in there or would it be better to get a new male?
thanx
