Hi everyone,
I have a 8g tank and I want to breed convicts. What are some good ways to breed them and what do I feed the young? The substrate is sand and a few rocks for hiding, do i need anything else??

Well, the minimum tank I would use would be a 20 gallon or preferably more, with a fair amount of rock work. Basically, to breed convicts, you just add water! ;) Feed baby brine or crush up some flake food. Use a good filter that will turn over the volume of water in the tank about 10 times an hour and a good heater and you are on your way! Do a google search for more info before you start to learn even more about these cool fish! Enjoy!

cichlids won't breed if they don't have the right requirements ie. right size tank at least a 20 gallon for cons.

thats bull your 8 gallon will be fine, i breed convicts in 10 gallon tanks all day long they would breed in a mudpuddle, i got picks of allmy tanks if you wanna see them, gotta 20 gallon long with about 20 fry from a pair and now they have paired off and started breeding, got about 5 or 6 pairs in there, its too easy to breed these fish, email me if you want some pics of convicts breeding in a 5 gallon tank, he he he, gotta pic of them laying and fertilizing the eggs, also got pics of a pair of oscars with fry in a 29? everything works differently for different people, just do what works for you

Oscars in a 29 is just plain mean.

But if you just want to breed convicts it can be done in a 10. But you must have another tank for the parents and the grow outs b/c a 10 will not be a good longterm home for any fish that can get up to 6".

Moved from a community tank to the 10 and then to a 29 and then to a 55 and then to new homes. I also did 50% water changes every 2 days when they were in the 10.

I meant to house two full grown breeding cons. James I did'nt really understand your post, but I would like to see the pics of the oscars in the 20, post them.
