has anyone here had success breeding and raising to adulthood, bamboo shrimp and african vampire shrimp? i am making a large order for quite a few of them and would love to be able to add their numbers. there is very limited info around on them so all help is appreciated.

well i heard that none of them have been able to be breed in captivity succesfully some people have been able to breed them but the babies dont usualy make it

I have not heard of a single instance of *CONFIRMED* breeding of any filter feeding shrimp, in captivity. However, I do personally know a few who are trying, and have chatted with others who have or are trying to breed them. The one person who I have spoken with who said he had done it, would not produce photos of any young in during larval stages, nor show pictures of anything besides a tank with different sized adult shrimp. So....

There is next to no documentation about captive breeding of filter feeders. But their habitats are similar to Amano shrimp (adults live in fresh water, but larva mature in brackish estuaries). Those who are trying to breed them, are using the method for rearing Amano larvae with filter feeders, or variations of it. There are confirmed reports of Amano breeding, and information on how to do so.

I would agree that the amano raising information is a good place to start. About the only thing I can offer is to observe the larvae closely. They seem to reach a certain point in development (in the larval stages) where they require some changes in their environment.

I was able to produce a couple of baby bamboo shrimp, but have no idea what happened to them. I never found any bodies in the breeder net that they were kept in. They could have died or escaped....

I haven't had a chance with the vampire young yet. It's rather difficult to see how far along the eggs are in development under the female's abdomen, and I always missed the opportunity to get the larvae.
