well i think i am going to breed a pair of bettas. i just have a few ?s. is the male beta supost to get mad when he looks at the femal? he looks like he is mad buy opening his front gills and spreding his fins? is that supost to be betta love or anger?

It sounds like you aer witnessing Betta love. But you will want to have at least 3 females for the male becuase if he's in the mood, and she isn't the males get aggressive.

i only have one femail they are really hard to get in my area. is it ok to try to bread with only one?

They wil flare at a thermometer if they feel like it... Breeding Bettas is not for the faint of heart...Aggression and physical confrontation is normal during the spawing process, the key (comming only from experience) is to know when it is too much...

Are you prepared for babies??? Do you have a thriving microworm culture? 100 heated jars for babies??? Are you breeding worthy stock, or producing a less desirable grade fish that may get you a dollar trade in credit?

If you are serious about breeding bettas, be prepared to shuck out some big dough just to raise and house them properly...I have bred them for years and would not encourage anyone to do it unless they are TRULY dedicated and prepared for a very time consuming fry rearing...They are one of the hardest fish to breed/keep and not worth the effort for the simple veil tail.

I am very fond of bettas i love bettas and about 2 years ago i was told get a couple of heating pads about 100 jars of water and keep the pad on low. feed them every 1 or 2 hours a day u have to crush the food very very fine. There will also be bad ones out of the whole bunch you will have to seperate them. I am not sure about this part but i think you have to breed them in a 10 or 20 gal.

I came very close to having little ones but i spent the night over at someones house and she over fed him every 5 mins (I went :thud: )

well i know i have over 100 1/2 gal jars and i know i can get them all heated... how long does it take till the femail will be readdy?

Heating pads are not the best option...For the most part they are not controllable and dont have a built in thermostat...Be prepared to do water changes every day with your half gallon jars. I kid you not when I say they are extremely high maintenance.
Crushed adult food is way too large for baby Bettas...They are so tiny, almost microscopic then born...Baby brine shrimp are about 4 times larger then they are when hatched just to put it into perspective...Crushed food also fouls the tank quickly...The ONLY way to raise healthy fry is with live foods...
Normally I try to encourage people with their fishkeeping, but you really are making a big mistake...You are not ready for Betta breeding and really have no idea what you are getting into...
Seriously think about what you are doing, and do lots of research. They are a challenging species for even the most seasoned fish breeder and not something to enter into lightly. Good luck

You dont sound like you like the fish hobbie that much.. :o
I think she's just realistic. You can love something and love doing it, but still recognize how much bleeding work it is :)

I would say she is responsible... There is no meaness in what she says just love for the fish and understanding of the work it takes. Thanks for the info! I have two bettas and love them to death. I never knew how much work it took for someone to breed them. Thanks for the lesson
