Hello everyone. I have been wanting to try breeding german blues for a long time now. Ive been doing alot of research but I have been getting some conflicting information. One thing I am stuck on is do I leave the parents or remove them? Ive read they are terrible their first spawn but they become better the more spawns they do. Ive also read they almost always eat thier brood and you have to remove them. Not really sure about that one. I want the tank to be as specifically set up for rams as I can get it. Here are my specs.

90 gal pre drilled
108w t5 ho
sump/fuge filter
300w and 200w heater
cant remember what my return pump is (Still in storage)
but its more than enough.
r/o filter
sand substrate with some flat rocks partially buried
a bunch of low light plants
Fuge will have 65w pc over it with some fast growers

Do you guys think this will work? Any advice or suggestions for my setup? I basically have everything from previous setups so I would like to use this setup so I dont have to spend a bunch of money. Any directions to some good articles would be much appreciated as well.

With my EBR's i just pull the eggs as soon as they are laid, because it turns into a mega turf war in the tank. I had 2 pairs both with eggs and they literally took turns going to the other side and harassing the other pair.

They have no problem laying eggs on terra cotta pots turned on their sides.

I've heard both good and bad about them parenting, I guess if you have patience then letting them try it on their own is a good thing, but if you have other fish in the tank then predation will probably become a major issue.

No other fish will be present in the tank mabye some snails or shrimp for cleanup. They will be in ram heaven. I figure I will need the water volume if they do have a sucessful spawn. Do you think a 90 will give them room to not have turf wars? I see most people breed in smaller tanks I was thinking a larger tank would help with this.

Im thinking 2 pairs I dont want to have to cull alot of the spawns. several lfs in my area will pay 5 dollars apeice for juvies another incentive to give this a try :). Plus just 4 little fish in my 90 with ro water will mean really pristine water.

CA I cant find any around here Ive driven to pet stores over 100 miles away. Ive found bolivian rams but no blues. Even bolivians are very rare around here.
