Breeding Ghost Shrimp

Before I discovered AC, I also frequented (and still do, occasionally) Tropical Fish Forums (TFF).

Here's a link to my log on breeding these guys:

Yeah, ghost shrimp don't need anything really special to breed. As the owner of my LFS said when I first asked about the conditions these shrimp need to be healthy, all you have to do is, "keep them wet."

I've had several females carry eggs several times in the course of keeping these shrimp and I don't do anything special to the tank. Just make sure you have hiding places for them and you don't have overly acidic water....I think that interferes with proper exoskeleton formation.

Aside from that, keep them wet, keep them fed and keep the temp. in the normal range for tropical fish and you should see some breeding.

I've been lucky a few times in that I've actually had some offspring survive in my tank. I don't have a sponge on my filter intake so the free-swimming larvae are likely to get sucked into the filter. However, every now and then I notice a shrimp that's waaayyy smaller than anything I purchased originally walking around the tank. That's more than likely a new juvenile shrimp.
