Hey folks. I was curious if anyone has any good advice on breeding these Tangs. I have two (one wild caught) in a very rocky 20-L. I have yet to determine what sex they are (any suggestions?). They've been together for about a week and seem ok with each other. The one who has been in there for about a year often pushes the other and runs its mouth pretty good up on the other one's side, but no fins are torn nor scales missing. The pH is about 8.2 and the water is very hard. Low to no nitrates. I feed them a variety of food...Hikari gold, frozen bloodworms, frozen brineshrimp, frozen tubifex worms. Any suggestions? I'm trying to find more and let them pair up and remove the extras, but they're on short supply on the moment up here. Thanks alot.

Females are larger than males and more aggressive. Have more than one cave in the tank since the female (if you do have a pair) can harass the male to death, esp. after breeding. They can lay several eggs at once or lay 10 or so every 2 weeks for a few months. In the end they end up with the same # of offspring. Th female will guard the fry, the male the territory. They are cave spawners and it is unlikely you will see the eggs. You will know that they are going to spawn by their quivering "dance" similar to other cichlids. What you are feeding is great.
