Hi Blackmoor,
Breeding goldfish can be very easy

- at least getting them to spawn can be easy enough, but keeping the larvae and fry alive is another matter. They need really good water conditions but most filters will suck them in and kill them. Your best bet is to have at least a 5 and a 10 gallon tank, cycled and on stand by, filtered by a simple sponge and air pump (algarde) plants will improve things no end as they will encourage microscopic critters that will help feed the fry. It is possible to feed dry powdered food until the fry get big enough to take larger live foods such as newly hatched brine shrimp. When the parents have spawned you will notice eggs on the plants (vallis is best

) and sides of the tank (about 1.5mm clear

) your best way of transferring them is to cut the leaves off the plants and float them in the 5 gallon tank facing downwards and keep them at 65 -70f, they should hatch in about 4 days. They will then hang around absorbing their yolksacs for a few days (try not to disturb them at this stage

) and when they are free swimming they will take the powdered fry food, try not to crowd the tank too much and they should grow nicely until they can take Newly hatched brineshrimp. When growing well (1.5cm) transfer to the 10 gallon tank to grow on and then if more than 5 to a small pond
The biggest problem with breeding goldfish is that you must watch the water quality carefully and cull
all deformed ones and ones with incomplete fantails, this must go on until you have only the best ones left - and you still don't know what colour they'll be until they're a few months old
Good Luck
