I have a couple F8's and i need to have snails to keep their teeth down.

My question is what is a good kind of snail to breed to make lots of lil snails and how would i go about breeding them. Also where can I find them?

I currently have some baby trapdoor snails in a 15gal tank with a filter and a heater. In the tank with them are ghost shrimp and a rosey red. I keep the shrimp well fed, so they wont eat the lil snails.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks

Here is a very good article.
http://www.thepufferforum.com/articles/puffer/snailbreeding.html

Feeder sanils is why I at last gave up by beloved puffer. I had a Petsamrt that let me pick snails out of their tank and then new management came along and killed that. I tried my best to farm snails and was very unsuccessful at it so I gave P-Diddy to someone who has 10 different tanks in their home and a never ending supply of snail.

Good Luck.

I tried bredding snails by that article, but i must have got duds. The pond snails i got made 1 cluster and then ate it :(
I got the lil trapdoor snails from my lfs, but they dont have a tank with plants anymore, so all the snails r gone. THey keep trying to sell me a big apple snail to feed my puffs, but i think thats mean cause they would be just picking at the poor big snail. I perfer giving lil ones to them that they can just eat in a bite. They dont even really eat the shell anymore, they have foound a way to suck the snail out of it shells in 2 seconds. Smart lil buggers.
I might have to go and raid some other pond.

Im sorry to hear that you had to give up P Diddy. Dang snails that wont breed.

You can try other causations in addition to the snails to help with their teeth. Shrimp, Clams, Crayfish and Mussels, frozen or otherwise, are all suggested foods. I have used baby ghost shrimp with mine, which they like and are cheep to buy.

On more than one occasion I have been told that saltwater puffers will chew on coral rock and this helps keep their teeth worn. I’m not sure of the accuracy of this statement, but it leads me to think that if there maybe an equivalent for freshwater puffers…?

ghost shrimp has enough shell to help keep my puffs teeth down? Im just more concerned in the winter when im not goin to be able to go to a pond and find some. Ill have to look at where i can get these other crustations.

quick questions so i dont make a new thread about snails - are there any breed of snails that can breed underwater? because i have no dry spots for the snails and i keep seeing little baby ones in the tank about the size of a pencil dot - and i havent added any new plants..so where are they coming from?

My 7.5g has no trouble breeding snails. Freebies from plants I bought. Ugh. I'm not sure what they are. Some are kind cool looking. I just let them be since they don't bother much and they clean up some.
