breeding swordtails.

Try just breeding them and not mixing. THey are nice looking fish. Did you get them all from the same LFS?
 
Are they also called koi swordtails they look a lot like koi swordtails, i was just wondering if they are called both names or is it two different fish?

If they are all from the same source then they could be from the same brood. Try getting some from another store to mix in with the ones you have.

They look like Koi Swords but then again, its just a color strain and will breed and behave like any other swords.
I would just go ahead and keep them isolated from any other strain. Now if you want to try some thing fun. Go ahead and get some more females of this strain and then breed them with your "Red Eyes". I would put one of your REs (if you have a spare male) and place him with a few (koi) gals in another tank. You might get some interesting fish or not. its a crap shoot in what you will get and will never know until you do it and then wait until they are adults. You might get some spectacular fish but only time will tell. Breeding Livebearers takes patients and creating your own color variation takes lots of time. But try it and in the years to come we may see the "Terror" Sword. :D

It depends on what you have in that tank and how big it is. Swords are pretty big fish that need lots of room to move around. I keep them in minium of a 20-29 gallon tanks. I like keeping them with lots of Java Moss and Hornwort in the tank for the fry to hide. So if you have lots of drift wood, live plants and plenty of space you should be ok. I also tend to breed them by themselves. So basically I have species only tanks for most of my live bearers.

Monkey, this should be a question to ask in the General Chit Chat area and doesnt pertain to this thread. But I would go to where you bought them and buy some hermit crab food.
