Hi all, I just got a breeding trap for my two due-in-a-few-days-female guppies. I submerged the whole thing into the tank instead of using the hook at the side of the trap so I can give the girls more room to swim but I was wondering it that was a mistake or not. I have read somewhere that fries need to get to the surface to fill their air bladders with air. So if I submerge the trap that means that they will need to get out of the trap in order to get their air thereby ruining the use of the trap altogether.

if you sumberge the whole breeders trap including the top they will try to get out. I would use the supplied clips.
The trouble with breeding traps is that you do not get very good aeration/water movement through them and so the female needs to be able to reach the top also. If there isnt enough water then why dont you top the water up so that there is and use the clips provided.
Yall just need to know breeders are horrible. They make fish give premature birth and the baby fish swim up through the gates and get eaten. Honestly you will save alot more babies if you get rocks in your tank. Then you just scoop them and they DO survive.
AnimeEd, what other fish do you have in witht the guppies? Size tank? Is there a special reason you want fry, lke as food for another animal? In my experience, if you provide enough plants, etc to hide in, planty of fry will survive on their own.
